Rae D. Magdon & Brianna Dym To Speak About Femslash Fanfic at geekOUTucr

Rae D. Magdon and Brianna Dym will present on "Enterprising Fans: How Femslash fans fill in the gaps mainstream media leaves behind" at at geekOUTucr on Saturday, February 17, 2018. ASL interpretation is provided. Rae D. Magdon will also be exhibiting at this free queer comic-con, and will be offering tips for fanfic writers at a separate writing workshop.

Rae D. Magdon is an author of queer and lesbian fiction. Her stories and transformative works celebrate lesbian, bisexual, queer, and trans women falling in love. In addition to ten original novels, she has an extensive fanfiction archive with over two hundred works. She is active in The 100, Mass Effect, Legend of Korra, and Wynonna Earp fandoms. Brianna Dym (Information Science PhD Student) has a background in English and sociolinguistics, with a masters degree from the University of Alaska. She got her start in researching online communities and their digital literacy practices, and is now looking to norms in online communities and ways in which different minority groups carve out spaces for themselves online. She is currently researching gaming communities and Archive of Our Own, and is also interested in different ways in which users push back against hegemonic structures in technology.
